• Well this won't be takin' long, fellas :)•
[14.06.2007] I'm just like sooooo fuckin' behind on maintaining my beloved WROOM-WROOM these days. I guess there's just way too many other things to keep my magnificent brain occupied. Summer is (occasionally) upon us up here in the kingdom of Norway.
And work is good. The amazing Crime Club is pickin' up our gig ratio and I'm all set to visit Cuba next month. Phiew.
But keep headin' back from time to time, and you'll find I'm still here. Although I must admit I'm entertaining an idea of callin' it quits. All depends on the available time, I guess. Maybe a complete re-Rockification is due. That might make things better. Hmm. Worth a thought...
Oh and the Rock Box? Hell I dunno. It'll be up soon :)
• Later the ever - better than beer •
[14.05.2007] Sorry 'bout the extreme delay in WROOM-WROOM action this year, but actually makin' money and stuff really takes alotta time. So , like, I'm all stressed out - but YOU can finally sit back and enjoy two weeks (?) of Genuine Rawk And Roll. Me give upon you The May Oh-Seven Rock Box!

[02.10.2006] 'Tis been alotta stuff to do lately, and I'm sorry to admit that the fabolous WROOM-WROOM has been sorta neglected tha last couple of months. I'll pull me shite together and kick it alive again, but we all kno' that - as they say - Rome wasn't built in a day. So be patient - I know at least I am - and there will be a bigger amount of cahones in da WROOM again. Huh huh huh. If y'all know what I mean. And I'm sure you do. Anyway, the Rock Box will be slightly delayed this month because of some other stuff I need to do. But worry not - we're not talkin' days here. Hang in there, Rockers!
• Feelin' down when September comes a-knockin'? here's the cure! •
[01.09.2006] Indeed the summer's retreating and autumn is drawin' nearer. There is still some hint of summer buzzin' around but in the mornings you can feel the inevitable change of season in the air. And if you're anything like The Driver, that fact pulls on the corners of your minds mouth like a twist of lemon. So to speak. Anyway. As the title of this post sez - HERE'S DA CURE :)
Sonic Bandits - Goddamn (DEMO version 2006)
These guys struts around the same Oslo Rock City as me, and that's a happy thought. 'Cuz this fuckin' Rocks! Dunno for how long they've been at it, but I know there's been at least a couple o' demos during the last two-three years. They recently released their first vinyl 7'' (One Track Mind EP) and I'm totally lookin' foreward to hearing it. Check'em out over at Sonic-Bandits.com.
The Soda Pop Kids - Put On Your Tight Pants
Hell yeah! I just discovered these guys outta USA. And whaddaband! This, ladies and gentlemen, is probably as sleazy as it gets. A genuine Rock'n'Roll act featuring guys emerging from bands such as The Riffs and Kill City Thrillers, these guys play it old school vith a vengeance! This tune is from their debut LP "Write Home", an album stuffed with glorious references to the New York Dolls, Dead Boys and Hanoi Rocks. Get it now or die a regretful old snot! Official band site at thesodapopkids.com.
Count Bishops - Teenage Letter
Wooh! Curtesy of the TWILIGHTZONE music blog and thanx to Morph for diggin' it up and throwin' it in my direction. R&B doesn't get any Punkier than this :) Good ol' British R&B with an attitude you wouldn't like to run into in a dark alley - this kicks ass all the way to the slammer. Last track from the highly recommendable 1975 "Speedball" EP. Enjoy! More over at this Count Bishops site.
The Accidents - Ain´t No Chance (I´m Working On A Day Like This)
Sweden's gotta have a cool band factory stashed away somewhere in the woods, cuz they just keep poppin' up. And this scary looking bunch is a fun find indeed. From the album "Poison Chalice" I've picked the track I think most accurately describes the band - true blue Rock'n'Roll with the agressive attitude of the '77 Punk Rock scene. A little like Thoroogood on glue. Visit their Myspace website for more!
The Vikings - It's Cool To Rock
Legendary stuff, this. As ya'll know. Steve Baise outta the late Devil Dogs teamed up with a bunch of keen Rockers in Oslo (Thomas "Happy-Tom" Seltzer and Knut "Euroboy" Schreiner from Turbonegro and Morten Henriksen from The Yum Yums and The Tip Toppers) and formed a kick ass band that truly cut thru the music scene in Norway like a white hot razor thru - uh - soft stuff. Sadly the thing didn't last for too many years, but the legacy still lives and breathes in Oslo Rock City. This track is from the '95 album "Go Berserk!". Rounding up with a quote from Morten: "The Vikings were never a real band - just a fun, vacation thing." Huh huh huh... Grunnen Rocks has some info.
The Joneses - She's So Filthy
They recorded one album - "Keeping Up With The Joneses", not really even a particularly good one - and became legends. This imfamous Hollywood Sleaze Rock act made a huge impression on me with the tune "Pill Box" when I first heard it on the "Born To Lose" soundtrack, and it just sticks like fuckin' crabs. Someone once called them the L.A. version of the Heartbrakers, and I guess that more or less sums it up. This is another great Joneses tune from the Sympathy For The Record Industry compilation album "Criminal History" - a much better album than the one the band actually made themselves. I think maybe Stones would have sounded a bit like this if they'd started up in '77. I mean can it get much tougher?
Rubber City Rebels - Rubber City Rebels
This I belive to be my favourite RCR tune. For the moment. There is just something honest about it, and man I so fuckin' dig that tempo thing at the end. Not very many bands manages to do that right, but here it is. Ripe for the pickin', so to speak. And how many times do you get the chance to dig a tune with a title like this, huh? Rubber City Rebels, Rubber City Rebels and Rubber City Rebels - band, album and track. Game, set and match. All good things are three, I guess. This is from their first full play album (1980), and after that nothing much happened for some twenty years. There wuz some live stuff and a re-release of "Rubber City Rebels" in 2001, and I thought yeah right. And then - in 2003 - they did a genius stroke again with the album "Pierce My Brain". The only this it lacks is a track like the one you're listening to on the Rock Box as we speak. Fuckin' run and gettit. Meet the band at Rubbecityrebels.com.
Psychotic Turnbuckles - Cool It
From the 12'' EP "Destroy Dull-City" here's a definitiv party killer from them 60's inspired 80's Garage Punk gurus Psycotic Turnbuckles. Dull City was their name for Sydney (I've never been there so I've no idea whether this is true or not) and this is also the city they dwelved in after relocating there from Pismo Beach, California after an alleged ban from ever playin' in the USA again. Anyway - 'nuff history. One thing that strikes me when stickin' on this tune is the massive wall of fuzz. I like the slow-but-not-slow feel of it, and I now understand where newer bends such as the Flaming Sideburns get their groove from. This is true Garage Punk from August 1986, back when Chris De Burgh sang about his lady in red and Lionel Richie was dancing on the ceiling. Huh huh huh. Great stuff, alltough I still think the song should be called "You're Outta Sight". Or sumthin'. Check out their official web page for more.
• Slowly - oh so slowly - he returns to the real world •
[21.08.2006] Yeah reality has finally begun findin' it's way thru the haze of summer and relaxation to yet again pester me with DO THIS! and DO THAT! and you know how the story goes (flip, flop and fly). I've started throwin' them occational glances at venue lists and gig-mails and The Big E alone knows what, and as you might have noticed I've started to post the ol' WROOM-WROOM recommendation over on the right hand side here again. There is - as always - alotta cool stuff goin' down in Oslo Rock City, so check in every now and then to catch up. There is - of course - more stuff posted in the Calendar.

• Right! It's June! It's girls! Girls! Girls!!! •
[01.02.2006] Oki doki. Summer's just 'round the bend and it's time for an all themed out Rock Box for the good lookin' month of June. Yeah! I was, like, spring cleanin' my iTunes the other day when I noticed the huge amount of titles with girls names in'em. At first I thought it was just a trick of the random function, but as I kept scrollin' down they kept showin' up. If you know what I mean, and I'm sure that you do. Bein' a smart Rocker and all. Anyway. All them Punk Rockers really, REALLY likes them honeys. 'Cuz they just can't stop makin' songs about'em. So - and here comes the point, finally - I've compiled almost a dozen of those girlie tracks for your hearing pleasure. Eleven tunes to them..uh..Femme Fatales. Some are declarations of luuuv and some are most definitely not. And here they are:
Shakey Sue - The Devil Dogs
Roberta - The Real Kids
Jivin' Sister Fanny - The New Bomb Turks
Jenna - The Riverboat Gamblers
Ruby D. - Les Sexareenos
Loretta - Nervous Eaters
Crazy Lazy Jane - Testors
Judy Is a Punk (Original '76 demo) - Ramones
Little Sally Tease - Don & The Goodtimes
Cassie - The Spaceshits
Betty Lou - The Four Slicks
Click-click that Rock Box! And remember these are just some of the songs with specific names in'em. There bunches more just about girls. We luv'em, don't we'all!
• Yiiiiihaaaaahhhhh! Yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiihaaaaaaaaaahh! •
[12.05.2006] Well kick me around and call me a corn-fed mule! Nine Pound Hammer checked in at Elm Street last night and sweet lord did they leave a mark! Again! And here I sit. At work. Close to five seconds behind the rest of the world. Again. And you know what? Same shite will happen the next time them fuckin' rednecks come 'round. And the next. And the..yeahwhateveryougetthepoint. Don't ya? Anyway - yesterdays gig was as spectacular as the last one (May '05) and once again Scott fucked up the roof over the Elm Street stage. He he. Guess we can start callin' that a quality mark. Only this time I didn't quite catch the exact moment it happened. Somewhere around Slam Bang, maybe.
To quote both the band and my friend Pål (in this pic actually observed together sometime during the afterparty over at Last Train yesterday): If you want to get to heaven you got to raise a little hell. Yeah I know that tune originally comes from the Ozark Mountain Daredevils but that kinda kills my phunny quotepoint, huh?
Cheers & thanx for an amazing gig, guys!
• Band list updates •
[05.05.2006] Managed to glue some more bands to the ever growin' Genuine Rock'n'Roll List :)
The Fevers, Amazombies, Chixdiggit!, The Four Slicks, Nuke & the Living Dead, The Radiators from Space, Teenage Harlets, The Things, The Tremolo Beer Gut and... oh... no, that's it. Nine more good Rockin' bands fer ya!
Have a nice weekend, everybody!
• AWRIGHT! GLORIOUS MAY DAY (and me) BRINGS ROCK FROM MYSPACE •
[02.05.2006] He he yeah I've been havin' a blast this time ridin' that online social soup called Myspace, diggin' all the fantastic bands just hangin' there - ripe for da pickin :) It's a fuckin' plethora of Genuine Rock'n'Roll bein' played around and about, and me think it's time to promote some of it here. I also have to warn you 'bout the difference in quality and sound level (the Anna And The Psychomen tune is very loud, and the Sheckies one is very not-so-loud) but you know how it is. I've no control what-so-ever on those matters. Now. So...
Hangin' Round with You - The Mugwumps
Can't Stop Shakin' - The Goodboys
My Thrills - Teenage Harlets
You're Nothing But A Stupid Girl - Anna And The Psychomen
Gotta Ride - Amazombies
Do The Pogo - Rock'n'Roll Stormtroopers
Generation TV - The Sheckies
I really don't know what song is my definite favorite - but I think maybe the amazing Anna and The Psychomen and their Stupid Girl struts away with the gold medal. Hot fuckin' hell now that's a kick ass Rock'n'Roll tune if I've ever heard one. Or maybe that brilliant Can't Stop Shakin' from The Goodboys? Aaaah no I cannot make up my mind. This is too good. And if ya want some more - check out my own little spot on Myspace. You'll find all them cool bands and plenty more in my friends hangout :) Anyway I'm gonna stick up a poll in the FORUM and see if I can't get an officially voted winner of the ROCKIEST ROCK OF MAY award. What's the price? Well honor and glory I guess. And the feelin' of doin' some good in the world.
Oh and PLETHORA means superabundance or excess. So now not only feedin' the Rockers, I'm fuckin' educatin' you as well. Damn I'm handsome!
• Bob won't let you dress up like Elvis or stay at the Heartbreak Hotel... •
[18.04.2006] Well this has got to be a FUCKIN' JOKE! Contactmusic.com reports that billionaire (whaddafuck is dat anyway?) Americal Idol owner Bob Sillerman outta New York City has spent roughly $ 114 million and bought an 85 per cent stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises - and now controls everything except The King's music. This means - and I hope ya'll are sittin' down now, dudes and dudettes - that Bob owns the rights to The King's name and likeness. Yup. His fuckin' likeness, for Chrissake! And what's the good Bob planning to do with this newfound greatness? Well, rumors are fuckin' evil...
Bob's planning to open a new Elvis cabaret in 'Vegas. Not a bad idea in the first place, really. Elvis is cool, so bring it on! But - and this is a BIG FRIGGIN' BUT(T) - Bob's gone and figured out that if he's goin' to be puttin' on a show based on Elvis impersinators, then obviously it woudn't be good for business if there was a bunch of unauthorised Elvis impersonators running around. So he'll most likely prevent anyone else from dressing up like The King. Uhu. Like that's gonne happen. Seen the movie V for Vendetta yet? Well let's start producing them Elvis masks!
Second plan-O-Bob is even better. Fuckin' Bob fuckin' Sillerman plans to demolish the legendary Heartbreak Hotel opposite Graceland in Memphis, and replace it with two huge 400-room hotels, restaurants, shops and a bloody amphitheatre. Djeeses will somebody please STOP THIS MANIAC!?!
• Get yer fix o'Fake Females now! Get complete satisfaction! •
[06.04.2006] Right. Betcha this header's gonna be pullin' some weird fuckin' freaks out from under whatever kinda stuff they're usually residing underneath, but the only ones to get complete satisfaction from this post I guess would be them good ol' Punk Rockers. Yeah you! 'Cuz here be a mighty fine treat fer ya! Legendary Oslo Punk Rock act The Fake Females did a reunion gig at a birthday bash back in 1999 at Grünerløkka Lufthavn in Oslo. It was a frightfully cool event, and lucky us - the self proclaimed El Prezidente of the unofficial Fake Females fan club came a-runnin' with his video camera and managed to capture the essence of the night. Or whatever. Anyway - here's the first clip he sent me: the smash hit "QUALIFIED" performed by Fake Females! Enjoy!
Get this video and at least two more at my video section over at MySpace.com
• Oki doki, Rockers! This ain't no April foolin' •
[31.03.2006] Okey just to make sure dis won't be mistaken for some elaborate prank tryin' to crank yer hopes up for some Genuine Punk Rock - I post the April Rock Box now. Still firmly rooted in the month of March. No foolin'. No tricks. Just a bunch o' asswhippin' stompers! 'Cuz the Driver loves y'all. Still.
Suspect Device - Stiff Little Fingers
Where Are They Now? - Cock Sparrer
Creatures - Adolescents
Action Time Vision - Alternative TV
No Room For You - Demob
Pills - New York Dolls
Religious Wars - Subhumans

Eight ol' favorites from those good ol' days :) Huh huh huh. I'll try to pick some more up-to-date stuff next month. I guess.
• Finally a decent piece o'Skandinavian Rock'n'Roll print... •
[20.03.2006] That's right. The Driver is impressed! Really impressed! And happy :) This Saturday I was just out roaming the streets of Rock City - you know the usual aimless Saturday trotting tryin' to shake off the feeling of way too many brewskis and shite Friday - when I decided that the thing I needed was some heavy black coffee and a little sit down somewhere nice. So I headed up to one of me regular hangouts, Bar Boca.
On the way I stopped by a newsvendor (mainly to get some gum and stuff, cuz I just quit smokin') and what did I find? I found the best (and apparently the only) damned Skandinavian Punk Rock'n'Roll and Garage magazine there is - DENIMZINE! Shit this is a cool mag, folks! Only possible difficult part might turn out to be the Swedish language, cuz that's the language it's done in. Lucky me, the multilingual genius, can enjoy the good articles, cool interviews and ripping reviews of both books, albums and unsigned band demos. It's all just the way we like it. Nice work indeed, and I'm gonna try and get a subscription going even if they find complicated to ship it all the way to Norway. Check out theit website for a pretty good time!
• Never Too Loud - A Tribute To Backstreet Girls •
[14.03.2006] Finally it's here! Big Dipper Records unleashes the much anticipated tribute album Never Too Loud - A Tribute To Backstreet Girls friday March 17th at Elm Street Rock Café in Oslo, and dude what a great and worthy line-up it's got! I mean - Norwegian Rock'n'Roll history would have been a pretty sordid read if it hadn't been for the guys in Backstreet Girls, and that fact is noticable on the album; we've got (amongst others) Gluecifer, Bazooka Boppers, Trashcan Darlings, The Carburetors, Cadillac, Cockroach Clan and The Yum Yums doin' their versions of ol' BG greats with their knobs cranked all the way up to eleven! Guitar hero Vidar Busk teams up with Rock City's own Punk Rock Guardian Chick Ingvild Hammer and gives us "Walking Downtown", instro surfers Beat Tornados and their Mariachi brethren in Los Plantronics does a couple of classics ("Speedway to Heaven" and "Gypo") and Mustache City Rock legend and looong time BG-friend Casino Steel (Hollywood Brats, The Boys/Yobs) delivers "Party Crashin'". And 'course no Bacstreet Girls tribute album would be complete without Sideburn Satan's unforgettable fast paced and breathtakin' version of "Awright Awright Awright " (check it out here!).
So drag yer Rock'n'Roll hungry selves down to Elm Street on Friday 17th for this hard hittin' extravaganza! And remember - it's NEVER TOO LOUD!
• Some updates •
[07.03.2006] Yeah I've added a couple o' new links to the Band list, and a whole bunch of stuff to the Label list. Actually quite fun to surf the label links - most of'em offer some mp3s and some even puts out music vids and stuff. And it's a good way of diggin' up new bands...

[23.01.2006] Acitve 24 - my service provider - had some major software problems today, and WROOM-WROOM was down for some hours. I don't think anything was damaged, but I still haven't looked thru everything. Hopefully there'll be no problems :)
• Don't forget to fill yer heads, cats! •

• The king of ært'n-dært'n-guitar comes a-knockin' •
[20.01.2006] You better belive it, Rockers! Former Georgia Satellites frontman Dan Baird will be descending upon Oslo Rock City on Monday May 29th at Rock Bottom to give us all a lesson in Happy Boogie :)
And this'll happen only two tiny days after George Thorogood & The Destroyers plays Rockefeller (on the 27th). Sweet djeeses what an unbeliveable month wrap up! And for the wallet-strong and determined Rocker, it should also be mentioned that one of Motor City's finest - namely Mr. Iggy Pop and his pack of Stooges - will be visiting Bergenshallen in..erh..Bergen..on the 5th. So. The month o'May is lookin' to be something of a legendary affair seen thru the eyes of the average Norwegian Rock'n'Roll addict. Oh yeah!
Cheers!
• The Ratcats out with debut album on Hit Me! Records •
[16.01.2006] Oh yeah! Oslo Rock City gives birth to more great Punk Rock'n'Roll than ever, and this time it's The Ratcats I wanna focus on. Februray 13th will forever stand as a big day in Norwegian Rock'n'Roll history due to the release of their debut album License To Rumble on Hit Me! Records.
The Ratcats are Petter Baarlie (Backtreet Girls), Dan Thunderbird (Backstreet Girls, Crime Club) and Andy Andersen (ex.Fuck Ups). This album totally kicks ass! 13 tracks of pure Punk Rock'n'Roll featuring guests such as Casino Steel, Captain Poon (Gluecifer) and more. Check out Hit Me! Records for a taste - they've got the tune Hero for download in their Jukebox section, and a live video version of the same track from the release party at Sound of Mu earlier this week. Enjoy a good blast of Punk from these guys! And by the damned record!
Big fuckin' congrats from The Driver!
• R.I.P Alpo! •
[16.01.2006] It is with great sadness that I learn that founding REAL KIDS bassist Allen “Alpo” Paulino has passed away. As far as I can tell, he died on Monday February 6th, and memorial services are scheduled for this upcomin' Saturday, February 18. I guess the appropriate thing to do this weekend would therefor be to grab a brewski and give a toast to the original Rock'n'Roll attitude! Thru his memory the legacy lives on!
Alpo will be greatly missed.
• Behold The Mighty WROOM-WROOM version 3.0! •
[13.01.2006] ROCK! I can't belive it! The Driver has done it again! Man, that guy's a fuckin Genius!
Erhm... - welcome, dear friends, to WROOM-WROOM version 3.0! I've been workin' on and off on this'n for some time now, and yeah there's still some stuff to sort out and put into place, but I just couldn't hold back any longer. Cool shite needs to be published, you know.
Of the stuff still in need of some work can be mentioned the main page archive (if I still want it, I'm really not sure), maybe a frames-solution to keep the forum and the calendar close to the main site, and a cool Rock'n'Roll quotes page that some of our devoted members' been askin' for. The latter might turn out to become a thread in da FORUM from which I just pick the really cool ones and publish here...
Anyway. Hope you like the new groovy design and all. Enjoy yer stay :)
• Some thoughts on the next couple of months in Oslo Rock City •
[10.01.2006] Awright! We kickstarted 06 with a treat from Robert Gordon and Chris Spedding (Jan 31st @ Rock Bottom), and the weeks ahead in Rock City doesn't look too fuckin' boring either:
Today the legendary Rockabilly venue Caven gets haunted by the even more legendary Barrence Whitfield, supported by The Seatsniffers. That's gonna be a killer - SHE'S THE GIRL FROM OUTTA SPAAAAAACE!!! Hell! Yeah! Further down the road of February y'all be able to experience the Punk Rock'n'Roll knucklebusters Crime Club again at Samfunnet - that'd be Feb 22nd. Be there! Then on the 25th Turbonegro will play "Auditorium 3" at Bislet High School - can I call it that? Anyway, there's competition for the crowds that night, 'cause Amulet plays John Dee and there's announced a big Rockabilly party at Gamla! Fun night out in Oslo Rock City!
Tuesday Feb 28th contains both Violent Femmes (@ Rockefeller) and Camaros (@ Last Train) - and my money would dribble on the latter, both 'cause it's a better band and 'cause it's a better venue :)
Rockefeller kicks off March with hardcore MF's Mayhem on the 3rd, and Elm Street houses The Coffin Daggers on the 9th. Slideshakers hits the same venue on the 12th, and The Black Halos comes there on the 19th. Good Elm Street month! Oh and they've booked Vice Squad and Haggis on the 25th. Yowser!
Oki doki - April, then. Mr. Strange Gentle down at Elm Street has managed to dig up one of Rock City's own legends. For the first time in 14 (!) years you'll be able to witness The Willy B. Guitar Review at Elm on Saturday 1st. And at John Dee you can catch the infamous Reverend Horton Heat on on the 6th and Backyard Babies on the 19th. Elm Street presents good ol' Buzzcocks on the 24th, where you also might get a dose of Crime Club as supporting act! Steve Harley & Cockney Rebell visits Rockefeller on the 28th and John Dee rounds up the first officiel Spring month with Th' Legendary Shack*shakers (if you haven't seen these guys yet, read my review of their last gig in Oslo here) on the 30th!
"But why has he stuck a pic of the Elm Street logo up in this article?" you ask. Well, that's because I think Elm Street runs away with the gold medal in cool gigs this period. That's why. So there. Ha.
So, like, pick it up and lay it down in Oslo Rock City in da weeks to come!
